Fair Choices was an concept by its owner Willie Keohane (formerly from County Cork, Ireland) to bring Fair Trade to the Logan and Beenleigh area. For a long time Willie had admired and been amazed by the crafts made in the producer groups and his wife Carol had been an advocate of Fair Trade for many years through contact with producer groups through her sister in law from Siham Craftlink, a Fair Trade Importer and wholesaler in Australia. A visit to Fair Choices brings a sense of the colour and skill of the artisans who work in the Fair Trade producer groups in India, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand and Bangladesh. Every item is a work of art instilled with the pride of the artisan in the production of it. The benefits to the artisans are very tangible, education and medical assistance are provided, no abuse of child labour and a fair price for the items they produce. Before working under the Fair Trade principals some of these artisans were exploited or had no opportunity to work.
